November 2026 Election Information
Candidate Filing Requirements
Overview
Board members for the Mendocino Coast Health Care District are elected during the November 3, 2026 General Election. The election is administered by the Mendocino County Elections Office in accordance with California law governing local special districts.
Three of the Five Board seats are up for election in 2026 by rotation. One additional Board seat is up for election due to resignation.
Candidate Qualifications
To run for office, a candidate must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a registered voter
- Reside within District boundaries
Filing Requirements
Candidates must file the following documents with the Mendocino County Elections Office:
- Declaration of Candidacy
- Nomination Papers (with required voter signatures)
- Ballot Designation Worksheet
- Candidate Statement (optional, fee applies)
Filing Period
The nomination period is expected to open in mid-July 2026 and close in early August 2026.
If an incumbent does not file, the deadline is extended by approximately five (5) days for that office.
Nomination Signatures
Candidates must obtain approximately 20–50 valid signatures from registered voters within the District. All signatures are subject to verification by the County Elections Office.
Campaign Finance Requirements
Candidates must comply with California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) rules, including:
- Filing a Form 501 (Candidate Intention Statement)
- Filing a Form 410 if contributions or expenditures reach $2,000
- Submitting required campaign disclosure reports
Statement of Economic Interests
Candidates are required to file a Form 700 (Statement of Economic Interests) upon becoming a candidate and annually if elected.
